Rangers Report July 2024

This report covers June and July 2024. Key points:

● In June, volunteers and rangers installed pre-feed pellets into every bait station.

● By early July, most of the bait stations in the reserve were completely empty.

● Between the 24th of July and the 1st of August, we managed to get all of the 1080 into bait stations.

● Although the 1080 operation took priority in June and July, we still managed to keep up with our regular

trapping in the duneland, boundaries and buffers.

● Grey-faced petrels/Ōi are nesting on the southeastern slopes of Bream Head/Te Whara.

● In June, the camera network shared with Predator Free Whangārei recorded one possum (F33 on 'Y'

line/most eastern coastal line), 15 kiwi, 2 stoats and 11 rats.

● We have begun collaborative planning with Weed Action and Aki Tai Here to develop a strategy and pest

plant control action plan.

● We are approaching the end of the 2023/24 winter planting season. The nursery has provided more than

7000 trees this season. There are still 1000 trees to go in on Ailsa Duffy's 13 ha QE2 covenant at Ocean

Beach.
