This report covers June and July 2025. Key points:
- Increased toxin uptake by rodents represents seasonal trends and indicates last year’s 1080 operation likely decreased their predator numbers (ie, mustelids).
- Multi-year analysis of camera data for detecting rats and mustelids illustrates long-term trends within the Bream Head/Te Whara Scenic Reserve (the Reserve).
- BHCT hosted our annual community planting day in June, with around 80 volunteers planting 2500 trees in the Home Bay area.
- BHCT rangers and Aki Tai Here visited the Home Bay area, continuing the shared mission of eradicating invasive pest plants and restoring the native habitat.
- Rangers set up cameras and moved most traps to new locations at the grey-faced petrel/ōi sites.
- Local botanist Marley Ford identified numerous rare plants in the Reserve.
