Here's part of the opening message from Trust Chair Nicola Hartwell:
"Kia ora e te whanau. What a year it has been, and like many of us the Trust had its share of change, challenges, growth and loss. As many of you may know, Greg Innes has stepped down from the Trust and I have been appointed as chair. I had the pleasure of attending the Northland Regional Council Environmental Awards to see Greg receive an award for outstanding contribution to te taio and once again extend a huge thanks and appreciation for Greg’s contribution to the Trust over the past 13 years. He is not the only one receiving an award this year, Robin Lieffering, our second chair person, received the Whangarei Civic Honours award in October for her commitment to ensuring environmental and wildlife protection into the future. Congratulations Greg and Robin! The cyclone brought significant damage to the Reserve and disruption to Trust operations, but thanks to the great work of our rangers, Aki Tai Here, our network of fantastic volunteers and some much needed funding from DOC, all tracks have been cleared and volunteers and visitors can navigate the Reserve safely again. The Trust’s operations continue to grow with the help of funding from DOC, Foundation North, Te Uru Rākau, Lotteries, Pub Charity, NRC, WDC and Channel Infrastructure."
